“Video games are bad for you? That's what they said about rock-n-roll.” - Shigeru Miyamoto

Friday Rambling - 03/23/07

Hello everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates recently, things have been retarded.

Folding@Home Comes to the PS3
Finally, after months of wondering when it would show up, it pops up as part of the 1.6 firmware update. The results? Well, see for yourself. The PS3 is dominating every other platform and, at the time of this writing, is providing an additional 435 TFLOPS of performance to the project. Incredible. What’s even more incredible is that people are actually taking notice and talking about it, giving the project massive amounts of exposure. If you have a PS3, do your part for the cause. Oh, and Microsoft, hurry up and fix your goddamn system so it’s not so loud and won’t blow up randomly so you can pursue something similar. We’re dealing with huge amounts of processing power this generation and it’s refreshing to see it being used for a noble cause, and used well. Every bit counts.

The PS3’s European Launch
Is it a success? Is it a flop? How the fuck am I supposed to know? People who want the PS3 to fail will look at the bad launch in France as evidence of that. People who want it to succeed will look at the strong showings in Spain and the UK. I think both sides are nuts and everyone should be waiting for official sales numbers instead. Last time I checked that’s still the best way to figure these sorts of things out. Right? Anyways, whatever, the damn thing is finally available “worldwide” (I really hate that term, it’s never true, dozens of countries are always left out) so more people can enjoy it, that’s all that matters.

God of War 2
Best $60 I ever spent. The entire thing is such a great extension of the first game and that’s why it’s so awesome. The combat’s as solid as ever, the puzzles are engaging, the boss fights are epic, and there’s plenty of bonus stuff to keep you coming back for a few more rounds. Right now i’m a few hours into Titan Mode and i’m enjoying it about as much as my first time around. The challenge is intense (calling it “very hard” is an understatement) but it really forces you to be observant of patterns, take advantage of openings, and really utilize you’re entire arsenal of magic and combat skills. It’s a cery rewarding experience, even if it is frustrating at times while you’re working stuff out. And the ending… oh boy, the ending… i’m not going to spoil anything, but suffice it to say that God of War 3 is going to be fucking EPIC. God of War 2 is the perfect and fitting end to one of the greatest gaming generations i’ve ever been a part of.

In other news, the Leafs lost tonight, blowing a 4-1 lead over Buffalo. Yup, this is how you make the playoffs alright… uggh…
