No one remembers Snatcher
It amazes me how some people either aren’t aware of or ignore some of the most important cult games ever made. Snatcher is the pinnacle of this, in my opinion.
Recently, GameFAQs did an article on the “The Top 10 Most Violent Videogames Ever” and, not surprisingly, Snatcher was ignored. This is a game that was released back in late 1994 on the Sega CD (much earlier on other platforms), but even today it has some of the goriest scenes in gaming. The most notable scene was the discovery of Jean Jack Gibson’s body at the abandoned warehouse in Act I. Was it just a dead body laying there? No. It was a dead body with it’s head twisted off. Games today have plenty of violence and plenty of bloody, but nothing quite as brutal as this. It doesn’t end there though, throughout the game you’re treated to even more brutality, including a dog being thrown through a window with its guts oozing out and the discovery of some rotting bodies, complete with a hanging eyeball and plenty of hungry maggots. Yummy.
But of course, none of this qualifies it as violent or gory according to GameFAQs. Nope, it’s as tame as eggnog, obviously. And you know what the funny thing about all this was? It was rated ‘T’.
